Time Is Money! Or is it?

Time Is Money! We all have heard this statement over and over again. We believe it is true. We calculate our time / money equation as we make decisions. Will the return on my time investment be there? Am I using my time effectively?

While time and money have a correlation, time is much more precious than money. I can spend money, not get a good return and yet make it up with another investment. I can use money to buy goods, services, and pleasures. Money can be invested and multiplied through wise stewardship.

Bible tells us that we should invest wisely and get a good return on our investment. There is even a parable on this. But time, once used, can never, ever be regained. There is only one moment exactly like the one right now. By the time you read this next sentence, that moment is gone, never to be used again. You cannot “make up time”. Every person, no matter how great or small, has the same allocation of time. Whether it is sluggard or the sage, time is allotted to each person the same.

Not only is time allotted to each person, there is a finite amount of time. You can’t add to it nor can you take from it. All you can do is use it.

Time isn’t money, it is a more precious and valuable resource. The supply is limited. The demand is exceeding.

What you do with time is the great revealer! It reveals your priorities, your leadership, your love language, your personality, and much more. But most importantly, it reveals your heart.

So what does your time reveal? Are you running from one fire to the next, pursuing wealth, chasing the next business fad, consuming your time in worldly wisdom? Or are you waiting upon the Lord, numbering your days, walking in wisdom, seeking Godly counsel, and redeeming your time?

We read in God’s word:

  • “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” Ps. 90:12

  • “Making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” Eph. 5:15

  • “Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” James 4:14

  • “My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!” Ps. 31:15

  • “Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.” Col. 4:5

I trust this has given you something to consider and worth the time you spent on it - because you can't get it back!
